WKS 569: Islam and the West: A Psychodynamic Appraisal
Toussulis, 1 credit
The purpose of this weekend seminar is to illustrate how a psychodynamic approach can contribute to assessments of inter-cultural conflict. America's current "War on Terrorism" dramatizes the need for a cultural-psychological understanding of Muslim values and identity. The objectives of this weekend course will be twofold: firstly to introduce students to a psychodynamic understanding of inter-cultural conflict, and secondly to investigate the specific case of Islamic fundamentalism and its perceived threat to the West.
